Paul Newman was a great actor because he never looked like he was acting. Not flashy, not showy...just always professional and very, very good.
If you're not familiar with his body of work, shame on you. Spend the next few Netflix rentals and watch a master at work...
Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid
The Sting
The Hustler
Somebody Up There Likes Me
Nobody's Fool
Cool Hand Luke
Cars
To quote Newman as Butch Cassidy..."I've got vision and the rest of the world wears bifocals."
Rest in peace Mr. Newman...you've earned it.

Paul Newman was a good actor and very much a motorsports enthusiast. I recall that in the early '80s Car and Driver magazine custom-built him a turbocharged Nissan Maxima as a gift. Since the Maxima wasn't available with a turbo from the factory, the CD team grafted the drivetrain from a 280ZX into the Maxima. The CD team spent a considerable amount of effort putting this gift together for Newman as a thank-you for all of his charitable works.
I also read that Newman was pretty tight with his money (for personal expenditures, as he was very charitable in his giving. Newman would write check for trivial amounts (sometimes less than $10) for various things with the knowledge that people would save the checks as souvenirs rather than cash them.
